The Hendrick Academy of Honor Foundation was founded in 1991 to honor Dr. H. Wayne Hendrick, retiring superintendent of Plano Independent School District. Dr. Hendrick devoted his career to the Plano community as the superintendent of schools for thirty years. Known for his long-term vision of scholastic excellence and high-quality education for all students, Dr. Hendrick has been an excellent role model for young people struggling against adversity. His extraordinary lifetime achievements illustrate the remarkable heights one can reach through hard work and determination.

BOARD OF DIRECTORS
The early Board members were longtime community leaders who determined that they wanted to seek to express appreciation of long-time Plano ISD Superintendent, Dr. H.Wayne Hendrick upon his retirement in 1991. They wanted to honor him for thirty years of brilliant vision and valuable contributions in the educational life of Plano ISD. They attributed much of the phenomenal growth of Plano from a small farming community to a thriving metropolitan city to his unswerving idealism for excellence in education. Early Board Members included: Dr. Travis Berry, Dr. Allan Bird, Joe Collins, David Griffin, Rutledge Haggard, David McCall, Jr., David McCall, III, Frank Medanich, Tino Trujillo, William Wells, and John Wroten.

Board members have been added through the years. Some have served for short periods, and a few have discontinued. Many Board members have continued serving for years because of their devotion to Dr. Hendrick and their dedication to youth and to the Hendrick Academy of Honor Scholarship recipients.

NOTE: In February 2009, the Board voted to change the organization's name to Hendrick Scholarship Foundation so as to more accurately describe its purpose.
