About Our Students

Since 1991, Hendrick has offered scholarships to over 200 students.

Examples of adversities in our students' lives:

  • Homelessness or lack of permanent residence

  • Not having anyone in a parent role due to chronic illness or death of a parent, parent's substance abuse, or abandonment

  • Having the responsibility of being the primary caretaker of siblings

  • Being a single teenage parent

  • Being refugees who fled their native countries due to civil war

We reach out to students who have overcome adversities and demonstrated the determination to improve their lives through education. With very few exceptions, our students are "first generation" college students i.e. they are the first in their families to ever attend college.

Our students have a wide range of backgrounds. We have students who were originally from different states around the country as well as different countries such as El Salvador, Peru, Mexico, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Romania, Iran, Iraq, Somalia, and Liberia. Whatever the background, they all have in common the fact that they are survivors and have developed the ability to persevere in the face of overwhelming obstacles.

OUR STUDENTS' SUCCESSES

Our graduates have received degrees in areas such as Nursing, Paramedic, Art History, Communications, Childhood Education, Biology, and Osteopathic medicine.

We have graduates from Abilene Christian College, Southern Methodist University, University Of North Texas, The Texas A & M University, Southwestern State University, University Of Texas at Dallas and the University Of North Texas. We have two students that have completed their masters and one that graduated in June 2005 with his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree.

These students are a testament to the fact that regardless of where you came from or what you have been through, determination is the key. If you leave yourself no option but to persevere to achieve your dreams, you will do just that. We have graduates who are in the medical professions, teachers, businessmen/women, and human rights advocates.

Today, we have students at colleges such as Collin College, University of North Texas, University of Texas Arlington, University of Texas Dallas, Texas Tech University, Sam Houston University, Texas Woman's University, and others. Our students are majoring in areas such as Nursing, Education, Finance, International Business, Chemistry, Applied Graphics Design, Respiratory Therapy, and Accounting.
